SAKURA AWARDS

The “12th SAKURA AWARDS Overall Kitchen Design Competition,” organized by Taiwan’s leading kitchen and bathroom equipment brand, Sakura, held its award ceremony on December 19, 2024, at WESTAR in Ximending, Taipei. Ming Chuan University’s Department of Industrial Design swept the gold, silver, and bronze awards in the Kitchen Appliance Industrial Design category, becoming the big winner!

The design “EcoMod Green Clean Module”, created by Ming Chuan University Industrial Design students Wu Yuqin and Chen Yanzhen, and guided by professors Wu Xiangping, Chen Zhenfu, Tao Chongguang, and Liu Kaiping, won the gold award in the Kitchen Appliance Industrial Design category.
Centered around sustainability, “simplicity,” “greenness,” and “intelligence,” the design combines a modular water purifier with water purification technology and an intelligent plant watering system. By reusing wastewater, it creates an aesthetically pleasing and practical home environmental solution that effectively reduces water waste, earning high praise from the judges.

The design “SMARTAREO HEAT IH Air Fryer”, created by Ming Chuan University Industrial Design students Zhang Yucen and Lin Xinzhang, and guided by professors Wu Xiangping, Chen Zhenfu, Tao Chongguang, and Liu Kaiping, won the silver award in the Kitchen Appliance Industrial Design category.
Addressing modern living needs, the design combines an air fryer with an IH (induction heating) stove, enhancing the product with optimized smoke exhaust and smart cleaning features. This built-in appliance makes the kitchen cleaner, saves space, and makes the cooking process more enjoyable and efficient.

The design “AquaPÜR Water Purification Core”, created by Ming Chuan University Industrial Design students Jin Xiuying, Zheng Yuliang, Zhong Zihan, and Lai Shuyan, and guided by Professor Zhan Xiaozhong, won the bronze award in the Kitchen Appliance Industrial Design category.
The design integrates a “water purifier” into the kitchen space with a minimalist approach, emphasizing a user-friendly maintenance experience. It makes installation and filter replacement easy and hassle-free. The filter system uses a modular design, allowing users to select different filtration levels based on their water quality needs, offering flexibility to adapt to different household environments and usage requirements.

The design “AquaPÜR Water Purification Core”, created by Ming Chuan University Industrial Design students Jin Xiuying, Zheng Yuliang, Zhong Zihan, and Lai Shuyan, won the bronze award in the Kitchen Appliance Industrial Design category.

This year’s competition, themed “Building the Infinite Possibilities of Home,” encouraged creativity through innovation in technology and materials, blending humanistic spirit with user experience. The goal was to explore various interpretations of “home” and create more possibilities for a better life.
In addition to receiving generous scholarships, the winning students were also offered paid summer internship opportunities by Taiwan Sakura. This initiative allows students to gain work experience early, helping them transition smoothly into the workforce after graduation.
