To ensure and enhance the quality of degree theses by graduate students in the Department of Product Design’s Master’s Program in Innovation Design and Management (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”), these Degree Thesis Quality Assurance Mechanism and Similarity Comparison Guidelines (hereinafter referred to as “the Guidelines”) are established in accordance with the Ming Chuan University Examination Regulations for Doctoral and Master’s Students.
2
When applying for a degree oral examination, graduate students must submit the Ming Chuan University Student Completed Thesis Similarity Report, signed and verified by their advisor. The similarity percentage indicated in the report must be below 20%.
3
For theses exceeding the above-mentioned similarity percentage:
- Students will not be permitted to proceed with the oral examination.
- If a student still wishes to apply for the oral examination despite not meeting the prescribed standard, they must provide specific reasons and obtain their advisor’s signature for confirmation.
4
In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s statement, whether or not a thesis meets the similarity percentage standard should not be the sole criterion for evaluating academic ethics. Faculty and students are required to thoroughly review the complete originality report and verify the appropriateness of source citations to avoid breaching academic ethics.
5
Turnitin serves only as a tool for similarity checks and is not an absolute indicator of plagiarism.
6
For details regarding tools and comparison methods, please refer to the Turnitin Comparison System Section on the Ming Chuan University Library website: https://library.mcu.edu.tw/turnitin. Operational instructions are available on the website or can be obtained from the university library.
7
Before completing graduation and clearance procedures, graduate students must use the Turnitin originality check system to generate a similarity report and accompanying data report. These must be signed and verified by their advisor and submitted to the Department office for record-keeping. If the submitted thesis does not meet the prescribed standards, students must provide specific reasons and obtain advisor confirmation before proceeding with clearance procedures.
8
The Guidelines shall be implemented upon approval by the Department Affairs Committee and from the date of publication.
Approved by the Department Affairs Committee in November 2024 (ROC Year 113)
