Taiwan\u2019s only competition focused on lighting product design<\/strong>, the 2025 Deng-Hsuan Award<\/strong>, organized by the Taiwan Lighting Fixture Exporters\u2019 Association<\/strong> and co-hosted by the Taiwan Optoelectronics and Compound Semiconductor Industry Association<\/strong>, held its awards ceremony on August 29<\/strong> at the GIS NTU Convention Center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yu-Chin Wu<\/strong>, a fourth-year student from the Ming Chuan University Department of Product Design<\/strong>, was selected from 322 entries nationwide<\/strong> and advanced to the top 12 finalists<\/strong> with her work Aero Glow \u2013 The Luminous Capsule<\/em><\/strong>, receiving recognition as a finalist.<\/p>\n

Guided by professors Kai-Ping Liu, Hsiang-Ping Wu, Chen-Zhen Fu, and Chung-Kuang Tao<\/strong>, Aero Glow \u2013 The Luminous Capsule<\/em><\/strong> is a situational lamp<\/strong> that modulates light intensity by controlling the flow of liquid through air pressure\u2014no motor required\u2014achieving low-carbon, poetic lighting effects<\/strong>. Inspired by the rhythms of breathing and water flow in nature<\/strong>, the lamp\u2019s internal structure uses a dual-layer airbag system<\/strong> and plant-based liquid<\/strong>, forming an air-pressure-controlled shading system. The design integrates creative design, smart technology, and environmental consciousness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Users can control the movement of the liquid by inflating or deflating, thereby blocking or releasing light, producing a soft, lively dimming effect<\/strong>. The design not only emphasizes lighting functionality but also focuses on the interaction between viewer emotions and spatial atmosphere<\/strong>. Its overall form is simple and restrained, highlighting the flowing rhythm of light and shadow, embodying the concept that \u201clight is not released instantly, but gradually emerges.\u201d<\/strong> The design emphasizes low energy consumption and minimal mechanical complexity<\/strong>, using air instead of motors, achieving an environmentally friendly and minimalist technical aesthetic.<\/p>\n

The Deng-Hsuan Award<\/strong> aims to promote the integration of lighting design and industry<\/strong>. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cSmart. Sustainable. Co-Creation\u201d<\/strong>, encouraged young designers to explore the diverse possibilities of light<\/strong>. The competition drew 322 entries from 38 schools across Taiwan<\/strong>, with only 12 finalists. All award-winning and shortlisted works were given opportunities to connect with industry partners<\/strong>, creating a platform for talent exchange and showcasing creativity in Taiwan\u2019s lighting sector.<\/p>\n
